Quilters on the Rock have had to cancel their Quilt Show scheduled for Aug.
6,7,8 in Oak Harbor.

At the June 2010 FIQ General Suns meeting, President Janet Foster announced that the Board choice for Member of the Quarter for July-September is Kelly Price. Kelly has taken on many responsibilities and jobs in the guild over the years. Her time and efforts are greatly appreciated. More info about Kelly to come….

Community Quilts needs you….

It is with great regret that we have received resignations from Mary Ellen and Suzanne. They have decided to take some time off from Community Quilts. They tell me they will work on community quilts but do not want to run the program any longer….Therefore, we are asking for your help. We will need at least two volunteers to replace Suzanne and Mary Ellen. Since Mary Ellen is a Star, we would really like to have another Star as well as one or two Suns. The job entails …..

Vote June 7 on Proposed By-Laws & Standing Rules

Attention FIQ members: Please read these proposed new FIQ Standing Rules and By-Laws, which will be voted on Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Suns General Meeting and the Stars evening meeting, each to be held at 12:30 the Anacortes Community Church, 1211 M Avenue, Anacortes. Many thanks to Lane Johnson and her committee for the hours they spent on these proposed new documents.

June meeting location change

Location change: the Monday, June 7 daytime and evening meetings of FIQ will be held at the Anacortes Christian Church, located at 1211 M Avenue, Anacortes. The building is located south of the light at the corner of 12th and M Avenue. There is parking adjacent to the building on M and a lower level parking area accessible from N Avenue. The meeting/potluck will take place in the fellowship hall.

Program: Monday, June 7, Karen Alexander, a quilting expert who lives on Lopez Island, will be giving a talk on the history of Quilting. She is an amazing talent and we look forward to her talks, both day and evening. She will be bringing many quilts to show and examine. She is a former president Quilters Hall of Fame and has dedicated her life to share her quilt knowledge.
Cause du Jour will be the Food Bank of Anacortes.

For May and June, Sit n Stitch, Divas & AQ will meet on the third Monday. Beginning in September, these groups will be held on the fourth Monday of the Month still at the Salvation Army location.

My first sewing experience was stitching appliqués on ditty bags in Girl Scouts. My mother taught me to sew simple clothes for my dolls. In junior high school I had to take a sewing class for home ec and then began to sew clothes for school. FIQ LIBRARY News by Loretta Fisher

In June we will be taking inventory of the Library books, so all books need to be returned at the June meeting and no books can be checked out in June. Don’t forget to return your books in June!

We have added the following new books to the Library:

Jelly Roll Quilts by Pam and Nicky Lintott – Projects for using the popular new rolls of 40 fabrics cut into 1-1/2″ strips.

Artful Applique II by Jane Townswick – New applique patterns and Jane’s “scraplique” method.

Anita Mayer wins at Mid-Atlantic

Congrats to our own Anita Mayer for winning First Place in the Vest/Jacket/Coat category, and for winning a Judge’s Choice Ribbon at the Mid-Atlantic Wearable Art Competition, Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival XXI held in February in Hampton, Virginia. See photos here…
