We are “The Chemo Rippers”, and we make quilts for patients at the Cancer Treatment Center at Island Hospital in Anacortes, Washington. The Center opened in 2003, and we decided to donate quilts for the patients. The quilts are then the property of the patients, to take home and bring to treatments. Our goal is to make sure every patient receives a quilt.
We meet the third Weds. of the month from 10 AM to 2 PM at a The Quilt Shop in Anacortes, and have about 10 active members in our circle. We all have fun with our day of quilting and visiting. We also work on the quilts at home and other FIQ members help in this way, by donating fabric, blocks, or tops for us to finish. We all feel this is a tremendously worth-while and rewarding project.
In 2004 we made a queen-size quilt to be raffled off for the Relay for Life, at the request of the staff at the Center. This raised $500.00 for the Relay for Life.
The aides at the Center have told us that the quilts are greatly appreciated by the recipients.
