Community Quilts work sessions are now held at the Cottage Hobby House at 1220 12th Street (at M Avenue), Anacortes at 10am on the 3rd Monday each month.
We’d like to reiterate some of the guidelines for Community Quilts. Although there are no hard and fast rules, one is particularly important to us-tops no more than width of fabric! If you don’t have material for the back, we have several bolts of fabric suitable for the purpose. So, general measurements are width of fabric and 50-60″ long-crib size basically–but that serves well for lap quilts as well. We recommend you use our batting, but we are presently looking into other sources as it’s not inexpensive. Quilting should be no more than 3-4″ apart and the binding put on by machine, both sides. If you like to hand stitch the binding on the back as I do, topstitch it afterwards-it makes it stronger for the kind of use we think these quilts get.
As you know, our financial circumstances are a bit straightened this year so we don’t really want to purchase any more materials than we absolutely have to. To that end, keep us in mind when you’re weeding out stash. We don’t really want ugly fabrics, but we’d be happy to have 1-1/2 to 2 yards of tone-on-tones to set the kids’ fabrics we got at Christmastime. This gives us sashing, borders and maybe binding. —Community Quilt Committee
