Quilts Presented

On Monday December 9, 2009, Fidalgo Island Quilters presented 15 bed size quilts to Eric Johnson, Board Director, Zay Smith, Executive Director, and Nicole Finley, Case Manager of the Anacortes Family Center.  On hand to present the quilts were FIQ members who participated in the construction of the quilts, including Janet Foster, FIQ President, and Carol Chapman and Marcia Berg, co-chairs of the FIQ Community Quilts Program.  FIQ’s goal is to provide quilts for all 24 beds in the shelter, helping to make a welcoming and warm environment for families in crisis.

The Anacortes Family Center provides shelter to single parents, single women, and families with children who are experiencing crisis conditions in their lives.  Part of their mission is to bring together the efforts of churches, government, civic organization and individuals to provide support for the emergency shelter.

Fidalgo Island Quilters has a long history of donating quilts to various community projects.  In 2008, they celebrated the donation of their 2,000th quilt to Skagit Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services shelter in Mount Vernon.  Groups within FIQ also make quilts for the local chemo infusion center, American Heroes, and the Linus Project.
