Friendship Block Exchange Program
The Friendship Block Exchange Program is a great way to get to know other members and to learn new skills. All members in good standing are welcome to participate in the program, but participation is optional. You may make as many or as few blocks as you wish. There are four lists: the “A” list is for the first-time Friendship Block presenters, and the “B”, “C” & “D” lists are for those who have previously presented blocks but continue to make blocks for other presenters.
After you have made five blocks for five different presenters, your name is placed on the bottom of the “A” list. As the people on the list ahead of you present their blocks, you name moves up the list until you reach the top. It is then your turn to present your block.
When planning you own block, prepare well in advance. Making a few sample blocks will help you check your instructions for accuracy. Write your instructions clearly and simply. If supplying fabric, it is a good idea to provide extra to allow for errors. If you want your blocks signed by the maker, include this request on your instruction sheet along with instructions as to where you want the name to be written. Add your name and phone number in case there are questions. Make enough instruction sheets so that both SUNS and STARS members can participate in making your block.
After you have presented your block and you have made 10 additional blocks for 10 individual presenters, your name is placed at the bottom of the “B” list. The process for getting to the top of the “B” list is the same as the “A” list. After you have presented from the “B” list and have made 15 blocks for presenters, you will be added to the bottom on the “C” list. Your name will be added to the bottom on the “D” list after you have presented from the “C” list and have made 20 blocks for presenters.
You are responsible for providing the Friendship Block Chair with a list of those who have made blocks for you. Your blocks may trickle in, but you can provide the Chair with names at any time – just make sure you don’t repeat names. This ensures that the names of those who make blocks move up the list and get the chance to present their own block. This is mandatory to stay in the program – you won’t move on to the next list unless you give credit where credit is due! We are currently scheduling 4 presenters monthly at the September through June meetings.
If you wish to make blocks for presenters but do NOT wish to present a block in the future, please let the Chair know so that she can remove your name from future presenter’s lists.
Please direct any questions to the Friendship Block Chair.
